Off-road riding is more demanding than road riding. Stamina-wise assume each mile off-road is very roughly equivalent to two on-road; even more if it’s very muddy.

Some routes are more technical (narrow single-track, very rocky, steep ups or downs, steps etc) than others. Some rides are explicitly declared as “not suitable for beginners”. Other rides are explicitly declared as “beginners welcome”: these are particularly suitable to riders who have not ridden with us before to help you gauge and improve your stamina and bike control and to give you a feel of our benchmarks.

If you intend joining a ride please phone up the ride leader to let them know, just in case it's cancelled at the last minute. If you have any questions, please phone up the ride leaders or Andrew Heaton (North Hants CTC off-road ride co-ordinator on 01256 782467) beforehand.email Andrew

10.00 am, Hatchet Pond Car Park (SU369017) Streetmap link
NOTE new start location. Payment for parking is discretionary.
This will be a very easy paced ride along some of the New Forest's network of well maintained cycle tracks. Distance around 8 miles but can be longer or shorter depending on riders. Hatchet Pond is perfect for children and picnics, so bring your own lunch or there is a nearby pub at Knights Copse. Alternatively, Beaulieu is less than 1 mile away and has pubs, shops and tea-rooms. If the weather is good this would be a great day out for the family.
