We have been shocked and saddened to learn of the death of Les Burch after a battle with cancer. He rode for many years with the Alton Saturday section, although illness had prevented him from joining us in recent times. He will be sorely missed, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time.

Welcome

CTC  North Hampshire is divided into three groups:
• Alton
• Fleet
• Farnborough

Regular rides start from Petersfield too and there is also an active off-road element with organised rides in and beyond the district.

We organise rides and other events to suit all abilities of cyclist, both on and off road. Visitors and non-members are welcome – it costs nothing to join the majority of our rides but regular riders are expected to be members of the CTC.

You can join the CTC online.

For further information about CTC North Hampshire please contact Andrew Heaton.

Pictures from rides and social events can be found in the Picture Gallery.

Buying online from Wiggle

The 'Wiggle' link in the navigation bar to the left will take you to Wiggle's online shop. Not only will you find a large range of products at competitive prices, but each purchase made by going from this link earns the CTC North Hampshire group a small amount of commission... which all adds up (over £100 so far).

Publicity

To publicise CTC North Hampshire and our events, we have produced a couple of posters to be used locally. There is a general information poster and a blank that can be added to, either on a PC and printed, or by hand after printing.

General Information

Blank

As we are a group spread across North Hampshire it is often difficult to get to hear about local matters affecting us as cyclists. So if you've some news in your area that might be of interest to others further afield, please pass details on and we'll put it up on this site. email

Can you help?

There is a Green Event being heldin front of the library in Fleet on 25th February and I wonder whether there are any CTC members who would be prepared to man a stand to promote cycling (and CTC).

I have also approached Cycle Kingdom with the idea that they could have a couple of cycles on display to tempt any would be cyclists on the day, but I was also hoping to run a simple cycle challenge involving a Turbo trainer. Partcipants would be challenged to cycle a mile in a given period or see how far they could cycle in one minute.

I am working at the Ride for the Pies CTC sportive that weekend, so cannot attend myself. If you think it is possible for CTC North Hants to support, please let me know. I can provide leaflets, equipment and any other guidance needed.

Anyone interested should

Stolenbikes.org.uk
You may have noticed a new tab near the foot of the navigation bar 'Stolenbikes.org.uk'. Following the arrest of three people and the recovery of some 60 frames in the Farnborough area, we are trying to reunite owners with their recovered bike frames (the bikes were stolen and stripped, the components being sold on). There are some very nice frames – certainly worth building up again.

We have set up the domain 'Stolenbikes.org.uk' and when entered into a browser, it brings the viewer to the page on our website. This page wil host pictures of all the frames along with contact details for the Police Officer in charge of this project.

So, if you, or anyone you know in the area 30 miles around Farnborough has had a high quality bike (road or MTB) stolen since October 2010 take a look, or pass on the web address: Stolenbikes.org.uk

The pictures will be posted within the next week.

Cycle Campaigning Report for 2011 – from Heather Rainbow.
Tesco's planning objection (mentioned in above report)

I am Sarah Walker, working on the Champions Cycle Development for the CTC in East Hampshire.
I would like to know if any CTC North Hants members would be interested in getting involved in the following projects I'm working on.

Parish Pedalers - I am looking for cycle Champions to engage with a Parish (council) area in East Hants to help to get people cycling. Volunteers would be given ride leader training and then asked to take people out for some short rides in their area. In 2012 each Parish would be asked to participate in an event called 'Pedal to the Medal' where there would be a large group ride from Parish to Parish (passing a 'golden cycle pump' as a baton). The training for this would be on 23rd and 24th May, although there is another session arranged for June and the possibility of one later on if necessary.

Bike recycling - While I realise that this may be a little far for most members, I would be interested in anyone who may like to get involved with this project in Gosport. I am working with the Imigration removal centre to help inmates to recycle bikes provided by the police and to be sent abroad when done. Dover has a similar project already running. The centre would also like to work with Highbury college to help some of their young people too. I have a meeting in the next couple of weeks to discuss this project and would be happy for anyone interested to come with me. It is a very interesting place to visit!
Please get back to me if you have any questions.
